Gee, I Must Be Pregnant

How can I tell?

--Lately, a number of my sentences have begun with, "Hey, you know what sounds REALLY good right now?" It's been cheese dip, a banana split, croissants, chocolate.....junk.

--Inability to watch movies or commercials that contain even the smallest bit of emotion. Last night we were watching "So You Think You Can Dance" and I got all teary-eyed when two people I've never seen in my life got eliminated. Ditto to listening to music. Yesterday I heard that Nickelback song, "Far Away" and I had to choke back a few tears. Nickelback! What have I been reduced to?

--Some of my favorite foods are now grossly unappealing. Eggs are out. So are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

--Bizarre cycles of manic energy and nesting, offset by sudden-onset exhausted crashes.

--Very strange and vivid dreams.

--Shawn has sympathy symptoms. I've read about this phenomenon and it is definitely real. Shawn gained 5 pounds with me last time. This time he is having intense cravings and is a little more emotional than usual. I'll keep everyone updated on his weight gain.....

Christmas Day 5

Kai riding a pirate ship ride.

All by himself....

Wearing Mommy's jacket for warmth.

After we did these rides, we rode a little train that rides along side the beach front. While we were riding the train from this children's fun park area, they played 50 Cent over the loudspeakers--unedited!! All of the nice Arab families got to learn about "moving your body like a snake" and what "ho" means to 50 Cent.....a little strange, and not very Christmasy.

Christmas Eve 1

The kids watching a new toy that Theresa got Kai for Christmas.

Shawn running with the kite. He wanted to try and get a kite going, but it didn't work out very well. He tried all different configurations with the string, different methods to try to get it to lift, etc....but to no avail. The kite would almost immediately crash.

Kai inspects another crash.

After about half an hour, Shawn says, "I have been defeated."

Our Christmas Decorations

After seeing my sister's blog, I thought it would be appropriate to throw a couple pictures of our Christmas decorations on the blog. This is it, folks. We just have one tiny table-top fake tree.

If it were a little scanter on the branches, it would very closely resemble the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

100th Post

I can't believe that I'm doing my 100th post. In the spirit of the blogging community, I am taking this post to tell you 100 things about myself. It's something I've seen other bloggers do, so hopefully it won't be construed as a major case of narcissism....or at least it will be socially acceptable narcissism. So here goes:

100 Things About Me

1. I was born November 4th, 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee.
2. In my parents’ bedroom.
3. No doctor or trained midwife was present.
4. I think that’s really cool.
5. I’m a birth advocate myself.
6. I believe birth is natural, normal and powerful.
7. My husband caught our second baby in our bedroom.
8. No doctor or trained midwife was present then either.
9. I have two children and am pregnant with our third.
10. I think this one is a boy.
11. Shawn wants to name the baby Asher.
12. I think he’ll get made fun of with a name like Asher Cherri.
13. But it’s not like Kai and Quinn won’t get made fun of.
14. Shawn says with a last name like Cherri, it’s bound to happen.
15. I know he’s right.
16. I love my husband.
17. I knew the night before we met that I was going to marry him.
18. Shawn’s brother knew that Shawn was going to marry me, too.
19. On the way to meet me, he said to Shawn, “Are you ready to go meet your future wife?”
20. Shawn was dumbfounded.
21. We were set up by his mom.
22. The night we met, he wore a shirt that said, “I’m the guy your mom warned you about.”
23. I about died.
24. I thought that there was no way my parents would let me get involved with him.
25. They thought the shirt was funny.
26. The night my dad met Jamas, Celeste’s (my sister) husband, he was wearing a shirt that said, “I’m here for your daughter.” On the back it said, “Don’t wait up!”
27. I don’t think Daddy noticed.
28. I miss my sister a lot.
29. She’s my best friend in the world.
30. Well, she and Shawn are both my best friends.
31. I think she’s hilarious.
32. She has put up with a lot of my crap.
33. She’s a lot tougher than me.
34. And prettier.
35. Our mothering skills are probably tied (BL).
36. I miss Taco Bell, too.
37. I love Mexican food.
38. Well, Tex-Mex.
39. My favorite color is cobalt blue.
40. I love music.
41. It moves my soul.
42. I like all kinds, but sometimes am embarrassed to admit that I like country, too.
43. I’m listening to the Dixie Chicks right now.
44. It’s a cover of “Landslide,” originally done by Stevie Nicks.
45. I love Stevie Nicks.
46. I want to see her in concert.
47. I’ve been to lots of concerts.
48. I used to really enjoy them.
49. Not as much any more.
50. I think I damaged my hearing from going to so many and listening to loud music.
51. I’m in denial about my hearing loss.
52. But I have to watch movies with subtitles sometimes.
53. I’d like to believe that it wasn’t my listening to extremely loud music, but my very loud children that caused it.
54. I love my children very much, but I’m not particularly maternal.
55. They don’t seem to mind.
56. They’re really independent.
57. Kai came at just the right time in my life.
58. He arrived before Shawn did.
59. I was scared at first, but his presence in my life changed me forever.
60. For the better.
61. I don’t like the kind of person I used to be.
62. I’m thankful to God that I’m not her anymore.
63. I believe in redemption and healing.
64. I keep my toenails painted all the time.
65. I stopped biting my fingernails about a year ago.
66. It doesn’t matter because they’re so wimpy that they peel off as soon as they get long enough to be pretty.
67. I don’t really know for sure what my natural hair color is.
68. I started dyeing it when I was 14.
69. I like the variety.
70. I love to write.
71. But not creative stuff.
72. One of my first jobs was as a dancing chicken.
73. I used to dance, sing, act, paint, and draw.
74. In kindergarten, I got a state-wide award for a drawing that I did.
75. I don’t consider myself to be very creative.
76. I’m cerebral.
77. I wish I could be a student forever.
78. I wish I could be a midwife.
79. I am usually a skeptic and a pessimist.
80. Shawn has helped me to be more positive.
81. He is almost always optimistic.
82. I don’t know how.
83. I read a quote somewhere that said, “The thing about being a pessimist is that you are always either being proven right or pleasantly surprised.”
84. I use this to justify my pessimism.
85. I grew up with three siblings.
86. I want four children because of this.
87. After that, I think I want my tubes tied.
88. I want to live in Europe some day.
89. I’m looking very forward to moving back to the States.
90. Everyone keeps asking when that will be.
91. I don’t know.
92. They don’t believe me.
93. But it’s true.
94. I miss our families so much.
95. I think when we get back, we’ll just tour around and live like gypsies, visiting all of our relatives.
96. They would probably be fine with that idea.
97. I’m not looking forward to the traveling back part.
98. It’s a 24+ hour trek across many continents, with many flight changes.
99. This was a really long list.
100. I am glad it’s over.

Shawn's Australian Adventure

As many of you may know, Shawn went to Australia this past week with my brother, Henry. They had a wonderful time, doing all sorts of outdoorsy stuff. They went scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling and hiking.

Here is the view from their hotel. The beach is Coogee Beach.

Here is a picture that was taken underwater while they were scuba diving of some sort of sea plant.

Here's Henry and Shawn getting ready to go scuba diving.
